Install the founder beta

Thanks for being a Prompt Plus founder. The beta is the full app, but it isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it. These steps take about a minute.

For macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Install and open the beta

  1. Download the disk image

    Use the download button on the page you saw after checkout, or the link in your founder email. Lost it? Get a new one on the recovery page with the email address you paid with.

  2. Drag Prompt Plus to Applications

    Double-click the downloaded .dmg file, then drag the Prompt Plus icon onto the Applications folder.

  3. Open it once, then close the warning

    Open Prompt Plus from your Applications folder. macOS says it can't verify that Prompt Plus is free of malware. Choose Done (on macOS 13 and 14 the button is OK). Don't move it to the Bin.

  4. Choose Open Anyway in System Settings

    Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to the message about Prompt Plus, choose Open Anyway and enter your Mac password. If macOS asks once more, choose Open Anyway again.

    The button appears for about an hour after step 3. If you don't see it, open Prompt Plus again and repeat step 3.

  5. Finish setup

    Prompt Plus opens from then on like any other app. Follow the setup checklist in Settings: paste your OpenRouter API key and allow Accessibility. The setup guide covers each step.

    If macOS asks whether Prompt Plus can use promptplus Safe Storage in your keychain, choose Always Allow. That's where your OpenRouter key is kept, encrypted.

    Used an earlier test build of Prompt Plus on this Mac? macOS treats the beta as a different app. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, select the old Prompt Plus entry, click −, then turn on the new one, or ⌃⌘E won't paste.

Only do this for the Prompt Plus beta you downloaded from this website or our email. Don't turn off macOS security protections, and don't use Terminal commands to get around them.

Why macOS warns you

Apple checks apps from outside the App Store through a process called notarization. The founder beta is released before that process is finished for Prompt Plus, so macOS can't confirm who made it and asks you to decide. The full version will be signed and notarized, and it opens without these extra steps.

Getting the full version

Your founder purchase includes the signed full version of Prompt Plus for macOS at no extra cost. When it's released, we'll email you. Your download link and the recovery page will then give you the full version.

  1. Quit the beta: click the Prompt Plus icon in the menu bar and choose Quit.
  2. Open the full version's disk image and drag Prompt Plus to Applications. When macOS asks, choose Replace.
  3. Open Prompt Plus. Your settings, saved prompts and API key carry over.
